Edmonton Man Hits It Big With $15-MILLION LOTTO 6/49 WIN

Edmonton man hits $15-million lotto win

EDMONTON -- Ever since Jamie Whittaker was eight years old, he's had a love for Slurpees. When he turned 18, he began buying lotto tickets with his Slurpee purchases. Last week his love for the slushy drinks finally paid off.
Whittaker stopped at a Sherwood Park 7-Eleven during his lunch break and checked the numbers on his Lotto 6/49 ticket. He's never won more than a $100. This time, he was holding a ticket for $15,689.035.
"It's just been absolutely unreal," said the 34-year-old Edmontonian. "I dropped to my knees for a second and I said, 'Don't have a heart attack.'
Whittaker immediately shared the news with his co-workers and phoned his girlfriend of two-and-a-half years, but had a hard time convincing her he wasn't kidding.
The win for Whittaker couldn't have come at a better time.
"Like everybody, I've got a lot of debt. I finally just got back on track after three years and now it's just absolutely mind blowing," he said. "I've been an incredibly unlucky person, which I can never say again now."
Whittaker gave some of his winnings to his family and has already invested the bulk of his money.
Following Tuesday's press conference, he and his girlfriend hopped a flight to Vegas. Only this time, Whittaker said it will be much different.
"We've been really counting the pennies and watching our spending so now we'll be able to do it a little bit better," he said. "It's already changed my life and my family's lives as well."
