Mystery over Naomi Campbell Paris 'mugging' as police say they have no record of it and say 'such a serious crime would have been investigated'

Claims that supermodel Naomi Campbell was mugged in Paris were this afternoon described as 'absolutely bizarre', as a French police source said there was no record of any attack.
Reports alleged today that the British supermodel was set upon by a gang of thugs as she tried to hail a cab in the French capital just before Christmas and ended up in a wheelchair because of her injuries.
In fact there is no official report of such a serious crime, either with the Paris criminal brigade or with city hospitals.
Although it may be Ms Campbell was attacked and chose not to report the assault.

'A high profile celebrity being attacked in Paris would be something everybody remembers,' said a police source after checking crime reports for December.
'If such a serious crime had taken place then a criminal enquiry would have started by now - especially if the victim ended up in a wheelchair.'
Earlier today the New York Post reported a source said: 'It was terrifying. Naomi believes the assailant had been watching her, casing her out, and waited for a moment to strike when she was alone. She was attacked in the street as she hailed a cab, and robbed.
'Her leg was injured as she was violently pushed to the ground. She was understandably very upset and shaken up.'
Muggings are comparatively rare in Paris, although sneak thieves do operate around the poorer suburbs, and at crowded Metro and train stations.
Ms Campbell, however, is known for her five star lifestyle when she is in the city, usually staying in a £1000 plus a night suite at the hugely luxurious Bristol Hotel, and travelling everywhere by chauffeur driven car.
A source working for the company which organises limousines for the supermodel when Ms Campbell is in the city said: 'The thought of Naomi Campbell hailing a taxi in the street is laughable, let alone the idea that a gang would attack her. It all sounds absolutely bizarre.
'Naomi is quite a demanding lady, and always has lots of assistants around her too. She's seldom alone!'

The 42-year-old's billionaire boyfriend, Vladimir Doronin, used his private jet to fly her to Vail, Colorado, where she was treated by J. Richard Steadman, one of the world's leading orthopedic surgeons.
Ms Campbell has been using a wheelchair and crutches since the alleged attack.
Vladimir was also reported to have increased the size of her security detail as a precaution.
Ms Campbell's representatives have refused to comment on the incident.
The New York Post reported French police are currently investigating the incident, and have apparently asked the model not to speak publicly about her ordeal.
Ms Campbell declined to comment on the attack, but told the Post that she is now 'fine'.
Over the past few weeks, the model has maintained a cheery online presence, tweeting a series of uplifting messages to welcome in the New Year.
The attack was not the first time Ms Campbell has been involved in an incident of violence.
The star has several times been accused of physically abusing members of her staff - in 2000, she admitted throwing a mobile phone at her personal assistant, and in 2007 she was ordered to carry out community service after assaulting her housekeeper.
Four years ago, Ms Campbell was banned from flying on British Airways for spitting at two policemen during an argument at Heathrow airport.
The model has been dating Mr Doronin, 50, for nearly five years - even though he is still married to his Russian wife, from whom he has been estranged for over a decade.
Ms Campbell threw him a lavish birthday party in India in November, but once again got in trouble with the law when her events manager was arrested over claims the event had produced too much noise.
