LONDON - She has a sweetness about her that, given the violence she's is expected to describe, is remarkable.
Her hair is neatly tucked behind one ear. She smiles nervously before giving her answers.
The main witness, a woman with cerebral palsy, began her testimony Wednesday at the trial of Johnathon Rick, 38, and Cynthia Anderson, 36, and is expected to testify for the rest of the day.
The details of the case, the Crown has said, can best be described as “torture” over four years.
Rick and Anderson, the woman's roommates, have pleaded not guilty to a list of charges, including aggravated sexual assault.
The woman, whose identity is protected by court order, was found cowering at a south London apartment on Aug. 13, 2011, suffering from various injuries, including serious burns that she told police were inflicted when she failed to do as she was told, particularly in sexual situations.
The 27-year-old is testifying via closed-circuit TV suite at London Superior Court.
She told assistant Crown attorney Fraser Ball she went to high school, but in a special program for people with learning difficulties because of her cerebral palsy.
She said she met Rick through a boyfriend in about 2003 and they got along “really good.”
She met Anderson, Rick's girlfriend, in 2007.
They played the game Dungeons and Dragons together and eventually, she moved in with the couple into an east London apartment.
The woman said she knew they were “dating” because “they were kissing and hugging.”
She was included in what she called “some sexuality stuff.”
At the first apartment she said her bed was a “toddler bed” that had belonged to Rick's child. It was thrown out before they moved to the south London unit when “I peed on it 'cause I was nervous.”
Ball asked what she was nervous about. “Only because he was hitting me,” she said.

“If I lied or touched any of his stuff, he would hit me,” she said.
At the new apartment, she didn't have a bed and slept on an air mattress and in a sleeping bags in a bedroom converted into a computer room.
That ended when she urinated on the floor, she said, because she thought Rick was going to hit her.
She was banished to a empty storage closet until,  she said, “I snuck out to get some food.”

She said she slept in the closet “until I got the burn down my leg.”
