China has been battling air pollution levels so high foreigners have dubbed it the "airpocalypse."This year air quality in Beijing has frequently been categorized as very unhealthy or hazardous, according to data from the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, which posts hourly updates on Twitter.com.
China accounts for 1.2 million, or nearly 40%, of the world's premature deaths where air pollution was a contributing factor, according to analysis presented Sunday in Beijing, the New York Times reported.
Chinese Premier Li Keqiang said on March 17 the government would "show even greater resolve" in dealing with the pollution crisis, and $16 billion has since been earmarked to deal with Beijing's pollution.
