Parents Charged After 4 Year Old Crashes Car Into McDonald's In Toronto

Four-year-old crashes car into McDonald’s

Two parents were charged after their 4-year-old boy got behind the wheel of a car and drove it through a McDonald’s at Jane and Finch Sunday.

Toronto Star - Two parents were charged after their 4-year-old boy got behind the wheel of a car and drove it through a McDonald’s at Jane and Finch Sunday afternoon, police said.
At 1 p.m., the father left the engine running of an uninsured Toyota Camry and went inside the McDonald’s at Jane Finch Mall located at 1911 Finch Ave W.
The boy was left sitting in the front passenger’s seat while his mother and an adult male were in the backseat.
Out of nowhere, the 4-year-old got behind the wheel and pressed the accelerator, causing the car to jolt forward and crash into the McDonald’s, police said.
The parents initially told police their son was not behind the wheel, contrary to witness statements, police said.
They were both charged with obstructing a peace officer for allegedly providing false information.
“We’re not laying any charges as a result of their (alleged) negligence because it seems to be a momentary lapse of judgement,” said Toronto police Sgt. Doodnath Churkoo. “What we laid a charge for is the fact that they (allegedly) tried to mislead the officer.”
The crash caused structural damage to the store, which closed for the rest of the day.
No injuries were reported.
