Goodwill donations are exploding

Hand grenade found in Goodwill donations bin

HILLSBORO, OR (KPTV) -
Shortly after 10 a.m., Hillsboro police responded to a report of a bomb scare at the Goodwill store at Southwest 234th Avenue and Tualatin Valley Highway.
The device was found by a worker who was sorting through donated items.
It was described as a hand grenade with the pin still intact.
A spokesman for Hillsboro police says the warehouse portion of the building was evacuated while the Portland Police Bureau's Explosive Disposal Unit came out to collect the grenade.
Lt. Mike Rouches said no actual threat accompanied the find, adding that it's more likely that someone unintentionally included the grenade in their dropped-off box of donations.
Rouches said it was a good reminder for people to be more wary when they are packing up items to give away.
The Goodwill store itself remained open for business during the incident.
