Saskatchewan mom given probation for dumping baby's body in garbage

A Saskatoon woman has received two years of probation after she put the body of her newborn baby in the garbage, reports say.
The child's body was never found, but the woman, who was 17 at the time, pleaded guilty in May to a charge of neglecting to obtain assistance in childbirth and concealing the body of a child.
The now 20-year-old woman was sentenced Friday, the Saskatoon Star Phoenix reported.
Police searched a landfill in November 2010 after receiving tips a 17-year-old girl gave birth during the Thanksgiving weekend. The baby was placed in a garbage bin outside the girl's home, and taken to the landfill.
It's never been clear whether the baby was alive or dead when the girl placed the newborn in the garbage bin.
