WAS A PIZZA REALLY WORTH IT - CHILD GOES FROM ABANDONMENT TO POSSIBLE NEGLECT OF CAS IN TORONTO

Toronto mother charged with child abandonment after young girl found on street

Police say mother told officers she went out to get pizza

A Toronto woman has been charged with child abandonment after a four-year-old girl was found wandering on a street alone early Monday.
Toronto police Det. Peter Wallace said the mother, 27, told officers that she went out to get pizza.
Wallace said a neighbour called police at around 1:30 a.m. after hearing a child crying outside. Police located the girl on the sidewalk in the area of Oakwood and Conway avenues in St. Clair West Village.
Accompanied by police, the girl pointed the way to her address and officers were able to reach the mother by cellphone.
Wallace said the mother told officers that she was on her way back home. Police said the father was at work and the mother is considered the main caregiver.
"It's hard to say how long the child was on the street," Wallace said.
The mother, who was in custody, is expected to be released sometime today and is expected to appear in court later this month.
Police say they are continuing to investigate while CAS has been contacted.
