Man, four teens charged in violent Richmond Hill fight
A grown man and four teens have been charged in connection with a violent altercation that was caught on video in Richmond Hill earlier this month.
A group of students gathered near Briar Nine Park in Oak Ridges for a fight at around 3 p.m. on Dec. 2, according to police.
Investigators believe that a student from Cardinal Carter Catholic High School and a student from St. Theresa Lisieux Catholic High School met to fight.
The father of one of the boys attended and got into an argument with one of the students who had gathered to watch the fight. Police say that altercation escalated into a physical fight and the man assaulted the student.
Video of the incident posted to social media shows the two boys swinging wildly at each other as the other teens watch. The man appears to loom over the two teens before punching one of the students watching the fight.
Several of the students then attacked the father, inflicting serious injuries, according to police.
Investigators said Tuesday that the father and several of the students involved in the fight have now been charged.
A 15-year-old, an 18-year-old, and two sixteen-year-olds have all been charged with assault causing bodily harm. All the teens are from Richmond Hill.
A 52-year-old man from King has been charged with assault.
None of those charged have been named in order to protect the identities of the underage teens under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
